Building starts on fourth child care facility in Riedberg. Building starts on day-care centre in Schöne Aussicht.

20.12.2011

Building work on a new day care centre started on the 19th December as part of the urban development program at Riedberg. The building will be able to accommodate 100 children. Building work on two other day care centres started in August and November respectively. In addition to these, a provisional pavilion has been erected at Altkönigblick. This new build is to be the fourth child care centre in Riedberg.

The new day care centre is being built on a 2,200 sqm plot of land between Gräfin-Dönhoff_Strasse, Christiane-Vulpius Strasse and Käthe-Kruse-Strasse. It will have two kindergartens and three after-school care clubs. The facility will offer 42 kindergarten places and 60 after-school club places. The new building will be a two storey, timber building executed to passive house standards. Access will be via Christiane-Vulpius-Strasse. A terraced open space in the south will be created to facilitate outdoor activities.

The two storey building was designed by Birk und Heilmeyer Architekten BDA from Stuttgart. Children, educators and housekeeping staff will share a total of 1,100 square metres of floor space.

The "village square" located at the centre of this windmill like building, will become the core of every activity within the facility. Sight lines between floors and outside spaces are achieved by elevating the ceiling of the "village square" to double height. There are two group areas, a multi functional room, the kitchen, the administration office and a integration room on the ground floor. There are three additional group areas, a workroom, a parents room, a staff room and further utility rooms on the top floor. Both floors are barrier free and thus accessible to everyone. A steel loggia at the front functions as an emergency exit and as a buffer between inside and outside.

Construction of the centre and should be completed by the end of 2012. The project is being realised as part of Riedberg's urban development measures and the project management is being carried out by HA Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH on behalf of the city of Frankfurt am Main.
